In 2007, there will be 6 Grand Prix events comprising two races over
the course of the event. The 12 races make up the World Championship for
2007. In 2007, the races will take place in:
- Valletta, Malta
- Naples, Italy
- Travemunde, Germany
- Cowes, England
- TBD, Spain
- Lisbon, Portugal
At each event, there is an Endurance race comprising 80 nautical miles
and a shorter race comprising 50 nautical miles. The two races combine to
form the event Grand Prix with points being awarded from both races towards
the final standings. Bonus points are also awarded for not changing engines
over the course of 3 Grand Prix.
Powerboat racing is unique…. there is no other sport where the 'track'
changes by the second, and is constantly moving and altering.
The only way to navigate around a course is by following markers, which
disappear in rough seas and are easily lost at speeds of up to 85 mph. One
momentary lack of concentration could cost you dear, or at the least lose
you a position in the race and at worst have an accident. Follow our updates
under “Race Reports”, “Incidents” and “Courses” for the latest updates.
The races are run under strict regulations from the U.I.M.
designed to keep the sport as safe and fair as possible. See 'News & Events' for this year's
racing calendar
